The Angsana Teluk Bahang Resort in Penang is a five-star resort uniquely nestled between the lush Teluk Bahang Forest and the coast of the Straits of Malacca. Capitalising upon the opportunity to use landscape design as a connector, motifs and elements of the lush forest and the sea were woven into the resort to create a seamless transition between the two zones.
Inspired by waves coming ashore, the shoreline side of the resort features serpentine shapes expressed as a subtly stepped water feature and tiered planters that rise up to make connections to the first storey deck with ‘jetty’ like platforms. Combined, the wave shaped planters and the extended decks recreate attributes of the coast on land. Towards the land side of the resort, the serpentine shapes gradually morph into gentle curves seen in the paving pattern that take reference from the adjacent road.
Recreational amenities for community enjoyment include an infinity pool by the Jubilee Pavilion and a children’s waterplay area with a specially designed kid’s club. The resort’s final touches are a celebration of Penang’s Peranakan heritage where vibrant colours and intricate floral motifs of the Straits Chinese eclectic style are incorporated into the landscape design.
