Located along the Huangpu River, Taikoo Li is a retail complex jointly developed by Swire Properties and Lujiazui Group in Shanghai’s vibrant Qiantan International Business District in Pudong. Opened in 2021, the project blends wellness, luxury, and nature to redefine the retail experience in China. It features appromixately 250 stores on a total construction area of about 120,000 square meters.

Tierra introduces the “Urban Nature” landscape concept to shape a distinctive urban green space inspired by the character of Qiantan Park and the Huangpu River. Here, the boundary between the urban and the wild softens and blurs, allowing both realms to overlap and evolve naturally with the changing seasons. Lush planting unfolds in an ever-changing tapestry of colour, offering fresh vistas throughout the year. The site becomes a microcosm of nature, grounded by textured granite paving laid in a distinctive pattern that anchors the landscape experience. Pedestrian movement flows through the space like a meandering stream, weaving across open-air valleys framed by cascading greenery. After rainfall, small puddles momentarily gather along the paving, quietly receding with time. The project serves as an urban oasis, reconnecting people with nature amidst the surrounding metropolitan fabric.

Taikoo Li is reported to be the “world’s first shopping mall” to receive WELL Core Platinum certification from the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) and obtaining LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
