The Orchid Pavilion was commissioned to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore. It showcases the beauty of Singapore orchids and redefines the idea of a pavilion. Situated on the South lawn of the extensive poolside garden area, The Orchid is visible from not only the pool area but also from all hotel rooms. The five 'petals' of a typical orchid in plan view form a planting bed from which the sculptural element of the pavilion rises. Cross laminated timber sections twist upwards to a height of 7 metres to form an open well of light to bathe a changing exhibition of orchid species that adorn the interior of the pavilion. The Orchid Pavilion has become a venue for exclusive dinners and a celebratory space for special occasions.
